What TumTum is

TumTum is a room of little digital toys for children from 12 months, on iPhone and iPad. Children tap and drag to explore a house, a town, an aquarium, dinosaurs, a kitchen and more, with no scores and no wrong answers. Grown-ups make a profile for each child and choose the toys, the language and the play time.

Common questions

How do I open the grown-ups area?

Press and hold the door marked grown-ups, at the top of the screen, until the ring fills. The same press and hold opens the shelves with all toys, switches profiles from your child’s name and leaves a toy from the X, so accidental taps don’t change the screen while your child plays. Leaving the app takes two quick swipes.

Plans and prices, and anything that opens outside TumTum — our website or an email — first ask a grown-up a short multiplication question.

What does a TumTum plan include, and how do I restore it?

A plan opens every toy for every child, including new toys as they arrive, and is shared with your family through Family Sharing. Choose a yearly plan (with a free trial when one is offered), a monthly plan or a one-time Lifetime purchase; the plans page shows prices in your own currency.

New device, or reinstalled? For grown-ups → Your plan → Restore purchases. To cancel, use Manage subscription in the same section, after the adult question, or your Apple Account settings; refunds are handled by Apple.

Which languages are there, and does TumTum work offline?

Children can play in English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, German, Mandarin Chinese, Korean or Japanese. Change it in For grown-ups → Sound & voice → Play language; the whole app follows it, settings included.

The toys and their pictures come with the app. Each language’s voice downloads once, when a grown-up picks the language, and then stays on the device; until it arrives, the toys show their words on screen. On mobile data TumTum asks first — the Download over mobile data switch is in For grown-ups → Space on this device — and nothing downloads while your child plays.

I can't hear the toys.

Check Silent Mode and your device volume first: TumTum plays alongside your own music and goes quiet in Silent Mode. In For grown-ups → Sound & voice, Narration and Sound effects have separate sliders, and either one at zero is silent. If a toy shows its words but doesn’t speak yet, its voice is still downloading.

Can I limit how long my child plays?

Yes. In For grown-ups → Play time, turn on Limit each play session and choose the length; it’s off until you turn it on, and each child has their own time. At the limit, play and sound pause on a rest screen until a grown-up holds the button to start a new session. It pauses TumTum, not the device or other apps, and the moon under the door on the Home opens the same setting.

What does TumTum know about my child?

Only what a grown-up enters during setup — a name or nickname, and the birth month and year — plus the choices made in settings. It all stays on this device: there’s no account, no ads, no tracking and no third-party analytics, and play activity is never sent to us.

Only the grown-ups’ screens go online: to download voices from the App Store, and to show plans and confirm purchases with Apple and our subscription service — never with your child’s details. You can remove a child in For grown-ups → Children, as long as another profile remains.
