Your files stay on your Mac
To find what can be cleaned, Poof looks at the names, sizes, dates and locations of files and folders in the places it knows about — caches, logs, build folders, the Trash and similar. It does not open or read what is inside your documents. Scan results, what you choose to clean and the totals Poof shows are kept on your Mac. Poof has no account, no ads, no advertising identifiers and no third-party analytics SDKs, and it never uploads file names, paths or scan results.
Access you grant
In the Mac App Store edition, macOS asks you to choose your Home folder once, and Poof keeps a bookmark to it on your Mac so it can scan again. Full Disk Access is optional: it lets Poof include the Trash, Mail downloads and app container caches. You can remove either permission at any time in System Settings, and Poof will ask again when it needs to.
Cleaning
Poof removes only the items you select, after a confirmation that says what will happen. Caches, logs and build data are deleted; installers, backups and archives go to the Trash so you can put them back. Poof never touches your documents, photos, music or iCloud Drive.
The menu bar and notifications
When you keep Poof in the menu bar, it checks the free space on your Mac and, while space is low, estimates on your Mac what could be cleaned. Notifications are shown by macOS on your Mac, and nothing about them is sent to us. You can turn them off in Poof's settings or in System Settings.
Plans and purchases
Scanning is free; cleaning needs Poof Pro, offered as a weekly or yearly subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase. Apple processes every payment through your Apple Account, and we never receive card details, your name or your Apple Account email address. When Poof shows its plans or checks your plan, it contacts our subscription service, Horse Revenue, which runs on Google Cloud. For this, the service receives a random identifier created for this installation, the app version, the macOS version and the App Store country, together with the purchase records signed by Apple (the product, dates, price and transaction identifiers). Apple also sends us notices about each plan, such as renewals, cancellations and refunds. We use this information to provide and support plans, to decide how many free cleans and which plans to offer, and to keep financial records. It is never used for advertising or tracking, and it never includes anything about your files. Deleting the app removes the random identifier from your Mac; purchase records are kept only as long as needed for support, accounting and legal obligations. You can manage or cancel a subscription in your App Store account settings.
When you contact us
If you email us, we receive your address and whatever you include. We use it to reply and resolve your request, and keep the correspondence only as long as needed for support and applicable obligations. Our email provider processes messages to deliver this service. You can ask us to access, correct or delete information in support correspondence.
These web pages and Apple services
The privacy and terms links in the app open this website only when you select them. These Poof pages contain no advertising tags, analytics scripts, forms or cookies set by us. Our hosting provider, GitHub Pages, receives technical request information such as an IP address when a page is loaded, and its privacy statement applies to that hosting. Apple separately operates the App Store and optional diagnostics under its own policies.
