Answers about iCloud, sharing, reminders and Kinfold Pro — and a real person at the end of an email.

What Kinfold is

Kinfold keeps your family's passports, ID cards, visas, residence permits and driver's licenses in one place, organized by person. Scan or import a document and Kinfold fills in the details on your device, then tracks the expiry date and reminds you before a renewal is due. It also plans trips, with packing lists and a check that everyone's passport is valid for the dates, on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Vision Pro.

Answers

Common questions

Where are my documents kept, and who can see them?

Kinfold has no account and no server of its own. Your vault is stored encrypted in your private iCloud and syncs to the devices signed in to your Apple Account, and scans are read on the device itself, so no document is sent anywhere to be processed. Our purchase service only learns whether you have Kinfold Pro and basic app use, such as which screens open — never your documents.

For a lock on top, open Family and turn on Lock with Face ID (Touch ID, Optic ID or your passcode, depending on the device). Kinfold then locks each time you leave it, hides its preview in the app switcher and keeps your documents out of Spotlight search. The lock is set separately on each device.

My documents aren't on my other iPhone, iPad or Mac. What should I check?

Kinfold syncs through iCloud, so every device needs to be signed in with the same Apple Account, with iCloud on and storage to spare. A new device shows Syncing your vault… while your documents come down; give it a minute on a good connection.

When sync is stuck, a cloud with an exclamation mark appears at the top of the Vault; tap it to see why. Family → Sync now shows when the vault last synced and checks again. If it says Not syncing — saving to this device only, quit Kinfold completely and open it again.

How do I share the vault with my family?

Open Family, tap Invite family to this vault and send the invitation however you like. The people you invite open it with Kinfold on their own device and see your vault read-only: your documents appear in their Vault under Shared with you and stay up to date as you make changes. Starting a share needs Kinfold Pro; the people you invite don’t need it.

Anyone who has the link can open it, so send it only to family. On iPhone or iPad, tap Invite family to this vault again to see who has joined, limit access to the people you invite, or stop sharing. On a Mac, the button copies the invite link instead.

Why didn't a renewal reminder arrive?

Reminders are set per device. Open Family → Reminders and check that Reminders on this device is on: it’s on by default only on iPhone, so iPad, Mac and Vision Pro stay quiet until you turn it on there. Notifications for Kinfold also have to be allowed in your device’s Settings.

Under Renewals, keep Document renewals on and choose how early to hear about it, from 3 months to 1 day before (2 months, 1 month and 1 week to start with), then set the Time of day. A document only reminds you when it has an expiry date and its Renewal reminder is on; archived documents and documents shared with you never send one.

What does Kinfold Pro add, and how do I restore it?

The free version has limits on how many family members and upcoming trips you can add. Kinfold Pro removes them and lets you invite family to share the vault. Nothing you already added is ever locked — the limits only stop you adding more. Prices show in your own currency before you buy.

New device, or reinstalled? Kinfold usually finds your purchase on its own when it opens. If not, go to Vault → Family → Kinfold Pro → Restore purchases, using the Apple Account you bought with. A subscription is managed and cancelled with Manage subscription in that same section, or in your Apple Account’s subscriptions; refunds are handled by Apple.

How do I delete a document, a person or everything?

Open the document, tap the … menu and choose Edit → Delete document, or swipe left on it in the Vault and tap the trash button; if it has previous versions, the newest one takes its place. To remove someone, open Family, tap their name and choose Remove family member — their documents go with them. Deleting is permanent and reaches every device on your iCloud.

There is no single erase-all button: remove family members along with their documents, delete your own documents one by one, and delete trips and events from their edit screens. Deleting the app from a device leaves your iCloud copy in place, and reinstalling brings the vault back.
